Turning Back the Clock on Premature Aging

March 28, 2018

If most people were to be truly honest, they would likely admit that, for most things in life, they act to correct negative consequences only after the effects of those negative consequences have come to light. We often avoid dental work until we have pain in our mouths. We put off routine car maintenance until the check engine light flashes or some noise becomes so unbearable that we surrender to it. And, in much the same way, we commonly overlook the things that best protect our bodies from harm until we become sick or injured or, as is the case with our skin, effected by the signs of premature aging.

As we go through life, our bodies absorb the effects of everything we encounter. When we eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and avoid environmental stressors, we are benefited by the evidence of our efforts: slim figures, improved strength and vitality, and clear and beautiful skin. When, however, we fall to the temptations of harmful things such as poor diet and unprotected sun exposure, our bodies bear the weight of our decisions.

The Causes of Premature Aging

Premature aging in our skin is caused, simply, by our bodies becoming overly taxed. Poor decisions, anxiety, stress, eating habits, tobacco and alcohol abuse, and sun exposure all contribute to the myriad ways in which our bodies become impaired by the world around us. Year after year spent exposed to such stressors results in loose skin, deep wrinkling, crow’s feet and laugh lines, hair loss, weight gain, age spots, scarring, and countless other side effects that ruin our health and create unsightly blemishes on our skin.

There are two ways these results can be remedied, through avoidance and through proper skin treatment. Unfortunately, avoidance is not always possible, and it falls on rejuvenating skin and body services to undo negative consequences and turn back the clock on premature aging.

Improving the Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles

When our bodies become overly stressed, they begin to deteriorate. One way our skin deteriorates is through the loss of elastin and collagen, two essential proteins responsible for maintaining the structure of our skin. When this structure is compromised, the results are seen through fine lines and wrinkles that make us look older than we feel.

Services such as microdermabrasion and fractional laser resurfacing, as well as topical products designed to improve skin health on a daily basis are valuable assets for combatting the signs of aging. In addition, skin injectables such as Restylane, Botox, and Juvéderm act to plump and tighten our skin for natural-looking results without the pain and expense of surgical services.

To find out which services will work best for your skin and help you regain your youthful appearance, contact your skin health provider and start designing your ideal regimen today.
