Energy Devices: Your Injectables New BFF

January 21, 2021

At Dermatology Consultants, P.C., we are dedicated to helping our patients look and feel their best. Many patients feel as though there is a gap between how they feel and how they look, which in turn impacts their confidence. Facial wrinkling and skin sagging are among the most notable signs of skin aging, and the increase in stressors of the past year has done its fair share to accelerate that aging process. In the past, most patients who were self-conscious about their aging skin successfully turned to the instant gratification of injectables. Building upon that advancement, recent research shows that injectables, when combined with procedures performed by ultrasound and radiofrequency (RF) devices have proven to provide even more long-lasting, nonsurgical facial lifting and tightening results.

Injectables came on the dermatology scene in the early 1980’s as a non-invasive, non-surgical solution for smoothing wrinkles and erasing fine lines. They are used to improve the look of crows feet around the eyes, wrinkles around the month, frown lines on the forehead and improve mid-face volume and jawline contour.

While incredibly effective, injectables alone are no longer at the forefront of lifting and tightening innovations. Energy devices, such as ultrasound and RF, have changed the game in the past 10 years. As patients grow older, they often need higher doses of injectables, neuromodulators and fillers, to accomplish the desired lift and tightening. These higher doses may result in an overly filled unnatural look. Energy devices present an opportunity to fill-in the gaps and provide patients with a more long-lasting, natural-looking, and wrinkle free face.

Energy device procedures allow for a minimal recovery time and can be used on a variety of different skin types. They are also a great option for patients weary of needle based treatments. By delivering longer wavelengths, energy devices have the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin than ever before, without the use of intense heat to the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin and therefore offer minimal recovery. Energy devices stimulate collagen production that in turn bolsters firm and supple skin.

Think of it this way – over the years, the fat in the face – which is like a couch – shrinks, while the outer-layer of skin – a slip-cover for the couch – expands. Injectables work to plump the couch, and the energy devices shrink the slip-cover. It is important to note that unlike injectables, energy devices do not show immediate results. They work by bolstering collagen production, which enhances the work done by injectables and ensures their longevity.

At Dermatology Consultants, P.C., we are proud to offer combination therapies that combat the aging process. There’s no one size fits all when it comes to energy devices, and luckily Dermatology Consultants Aesthetic and Laser Center is able to offer some of the most cutting-edge radio frequency and ultrasound treatments including but not limited to Accutite, Evoke, Morpheus8, SkinTyte, Ultherapy, and Vivace.
