How to Rewrite Expression Lines

April 18, 2018

Were you ever told as a child that if you continued to make a silly face, it might just stick that way? Maybe, as a parent, you have applied the same tactic to get your child to behave in line at the grocery store? The irony in this lesson is that kids don’t typically put much stock in the way they look, while adults are much more likely to nitpick every detail of their appearance, especially when it comes to their face. And while making silly faces from time to time as a child isn’t likely to have any lasting result on the way you look, a lifetime of expressions and habits can absolutely dictate the manner in which wrinkles and folds form in our skin as we age.

How Expressions Shape the Face

Most people begin to see their first wrinkles in their mid- to late-20s. It usually starts with a few fine lines around the corners of the eyes (better known as crow’s feet), more pronounced lateral lines in the forehead (worry lines), or curved lines that run from the nostrils to the edges of our mouths. As we get older, these lines begin to grow deeper and more obvious.

The cause of these wrinkles and folds in our skin is due, in part, by a loss of collagen and elastin. These proteins are responsible for maintaining the structure of our skin when we’re younger, and as we age they continue to deteriorate in our bodies. This process of aging – combined with years of smiling, frowning, laughing, crying, and other expressions and habits that regularly flex and fold the skin aging – can have dramatic results on our appearance later on down the road, and, if left untreated, can make us look much older than we ought to.

There are several options for patients looking to tighten, smooth, and de-wrinkle their skin. Some aging – such as facelifts and other surgical procedures aging – can have powerful benefits, but, if not done properly, can result in permanent scarring and irreversible results. Cosmetic options such as microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing are terrific options for some patients, but do require some downtime and discoloration following the procedure.

One of the most commonly sought after and trusted solutions is Belotero Balance. This injectable procedure is easy to receive, requires absolutely no downtime or discoloration, and can be performed on a routine basis to maintain tight, smooth, and youthful skin.

Belotero Balance is specifically designed to treat moderate to severe nasolabial folds (the deep lines that form the nostrils to the corners of the mouth). The result is skin that looks much more youthful and vibrant.
